LOCATION: 13988 Range Line Rd, Niles, MI 49120. About 30 minutes from South Bend.
WHERE TO MEET: Meet at front desk. To make arrangements to carpool, email outdoors@thelgbtqcenter.org or RSVP here.

WHAT TO BRING: Sneakers or sturdy shoes. Water, snacks.
AGE: Outdoor Club is geared primarily to adults 18+. Children are welcome to join, if accompanied by their guardian.

PETS: Dogs including emotional support animals are not allowed on the property, except for service animals
COST: $10 for adults. For other pricing (children, senior/student discounts), visit the Fernwood website.
ACCESSIBILITY: Fernwood has wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers available upon request. We will take a meandering “stop and smell the roses” pace.

 If you would like to attend and hesitate due to accessibility concerns, please email outdoors@thelgbtqcenter.org. We will coordinate to determine whether any barriers are present and, if so, if they can be removed.

Pride Ride

Pride Ride

What: A casual group bicycle ride to celebrate and kick off Pride Month! Followed by socializing at the Launch Party at The Lauber.

Where: Meet at South Bend Bike Garage just south of Holy Cross College at the intersection of Angela Boulevard and State Road 933 (Address:1441 N Michigan St, South Bend, IN 46617). Ample free parking available.

When: Saturday June 1st, Meet at 4 pm eastern.

- 4-4:30 pm: Socializing, opportunity to get bike cleaned & tuned up at no cost by Bike Garage volunteers

- 4:30 pm: Group departs. Estimated ride time 45 minutes to 1 hour

- 5:30 pm: Arrive back at Bike Garage

- Transition to Launch Party: Bike or drive to the Lauber for the Launch Party starting at 6 pm.

The Ride: Family friendly ride! Entirely on the trail system, separated from vehicles with just a few road crossings. 7.7 mile loop one way at a casual pace (12 miles per hour or slower). The group will ride at the pace set by the slowest member. Paved surface most of the way, flat with one significant downhill and one uphill. 

What to bring: Bring your own bike, helmet, and water. Dress for the weather (sunscreen, etc.). Show your pride and wear Pride colors!

About the Launch Party: The Pride Launch Party kicks off Pride month and showcases the suite of South Bend Pride events to look forward to. The event is free to attend, and food and drinks are available for purchase. 6-9 pm at The Lauber, 504 E LaSalle Street, South Bend.

Need a bike? Need a tune up? On a tight budget? Attend the South Bend Bike Garage's regular Wednesday open hours from 5 - 8 pm. You can learn how to fix your bike, buy a bike for an affordable price, or earn a bike by volunteering! Not sure if your bike is road worthy? Outdoor Club: Rock Climbing

Come try something new this month and join the LGBTQ Outdoors Club at Apex Climbing Gym! We will spend an afternoon together bouldering (climbing without ropes, up to heights of 15 ft), exercising, and socializing.

All are welcome. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by their guardian.

WHEN: Sunday, March 3, 2-4 PM
WHERE: Meet inside at Apex Climbing Gym, 5505 Grape Rd, Mishawaka, IN 46545, Apex Climbing Gym 
COST: Day pass $20, +$5 for climbing shoes (required). Discounts for children, teachers, students, military, and first responders.

Outdoor Club: Winter Hiking

Join The LGBTQ Center's Outdoor Club for a winter nature walk at Lydick Bog! Shirley Heinz Land Trust will provide a guided hike with a naturalist.
When: Saturday, February 10
Time: 2—4 pm Eastern, depart picnic shelter at 2:15 pm.
Where: Meet at the picnic shelter by the parking lot.  To make arrangements to carpool, request a ride through this form.
Cost: Free
What to bring: Dress for the weather, in layers!  Sneakers or sturdy shoes. Water, snacks.
Age: Adults 18+.  Children are welcome and encouraged to join, accompanied by their guardian. Dogs on leash.

This event is in partnership with South Bend Civic Theatre and will follow the opening of their production of LA Cage Aux Folles, which is the show The Birdcage is based on. The viewing will be followed by a panel discussing the two works.

Outdoor Club: Ice Skating (Date Change)

Join us for Ice Skating at the Howard Park in downtown South Bend for $5 Skate Night! Everyone is responsible for booking/reserving their own spot with the City of South Bend in advance, or upon arrival. The discounted skate night is popular, so you're encouraged to book early!

When: Tuesday January 30th, 7-8:20 pm.
Where: Howard Park, 219 S St Louis Blvd, South Bend, IN 46617
Where to Meet: Meet inside the building in the warm room in front of the fire area where people put on their skates. Can't find us? Look for a rainbow flag.
What to wear: Dress for the weather (warm), but in layers. It get be helpful to have a couple different thicknesses of socks to find the right fit in the rental stakes. 
Cost: $5 flat fee

Age: Outdoor Club is 18+ unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Waivers: The LGBTQ Center has a short waiver to sign, in addition to the waiver you sign online with the city.
Inclement Weather: The city will cancel at least one hour prior to the scheduled session if they are canceling due to weather, in which case they will give you a refund. If you elect to cancel, you can reschedule. Please review the refund policy on the city's website. 
Accessibility: A skate assist sled is available for use by skaters with physical disabilities and their companion skater.  
If the park is closed due to weather, we will contact you to let you know.
